Alex first came to Recursive this past summer as a guest of Mike and Eric when we had our Member Appreciation Party. It took a few months after that, but we FINALLY got him started at the gym recently!

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hey! I’m Alex, but I also go by Xander. Professionally, I work in clinical research at a biotech startup. On the side, I sing in a choir, practice archery, and hang out with my local friends!

Why did you choose Recursive?
I have two close friends who joined Recursive, and they incessantly talked about how much they enjoyed the gym as well as the community. It took a little time, but after getting to know other Recursive members, I decided to join as well!

What is your favorite thing about working out at Recursive?
I like the variety of workouts Recursive offers, so getting fit never feels stale.

What was the biggest struggle you’ve had the last few months?
I naturally do not like lifting weights or working on my core, so I’m glad those two areas are covered in CrossFit.

What is your biggest accomplishment since starting your commitment to a lifestyle change?
I have altered my schedule so that I am getting an active workout 2-3x/wk, and I’m optimistic that I will see the changes to my health and body image that I’ve wanted for years.

How has Recursive changed your life?
Recursive has made me excited to push myself athletically. Every group workout contains members who want to see you be your best self, and are working on that same goal.

What advice do you have for people who are nervous to get started?
Look at the diversity of ages and fitness levels at Recursive. I didn’t think I was the “CrossFit” type, but I’ve since learned there isn’t just one type that thrives here. All workouts are scalable, so you can challenge yourself without running the risk of overdoing it or hurting yourself.

What is something else fun you’d like to share about yourself?
In a past life, I sang back-up vocals and played bass in an indie pop band with one of my best buds. It was a fun time!
