James has been a member at Recursive for the last year. He is very consistent at the 5:30am class and did a great job staying consistent even during quarantine!
Why did you choose Recursive?
When I moved to Madison about a year ago, I knew I wanted to continue taking coached functional fitness classes, which I had started doing in Cleveland during graduate school. Recursive has a great reputation (one of the coaches at my previous gym knew and spoke well of Recursive), and when I dropped into a couple of classes to check them out, the Coaches at Recursive were knowledgeable and friendly.
What is your favorite thing about working out at Recursive?
I love that the workout is set in advance. I show up, the Coach explains the exercises, and I do them to the best of my ability. An hour later, I’ve done a solid workout, and I feel great.
What was the biggest struggle you’ve had the last few months?
It took me a couple of weeks to adapt to wearing a mask while working out.
What is your biggest accomplishment in the last month?
The number of unbroken push ups I can do has skyrocketed! I keep surprising myself during workouts with more and more push ups.
How has Recursive changed your life?
I’ve lost some weight, I’m leaner, and a lot stronger.
What advice do you have for people who are nervous to get started?
Show up and enjoy the process. In my experience, learning to do the exercises well is the best first achievement. For me, improved speed and strength have always been the result of practicing skills.
What is something else fun you’d like to share about yourself?
I enjoy baking, and pies are my specialty! (Hence I must keep working out at Recursive!)
