Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I moved to Madison from the east coast 3 years ago for work at Epic. Now I work remotely as a software developer. Even though I’ve changed jobs, I can’t bear to change cities.
Why did you choose Recursive?
A close friend encouraged to try CrossFit. So I joined his gym! I’m so glad I did.
What is your favorite thing about working out at Recursive?
The atmosphere. The coaches give great advice and encouragement. The community is supportive and celebrates your growth.
What was the biggest struggle you’ve had the last few months?
I’m still working on my lifting form. I love getting small corrections. I’ve definitely been improving gradually and consistently.
What is your biggest accomplishment since starting your commitment to a lifestyle change?
I always avoided deadlifting out of fear of injury. I recently deadlifted over 200 pounds for the first time. It felt great.
How has Recursive changed your life?
I could never maintain the long-term discipline to get myself to exercise. Something about Recursive gets me back in the gym. Actually, I look forward to it in my day.
What advice do you have for people who are nervous to get started?
Don’t be afraid to fail. I’m usually the slowest to finish group exercises. It can be scary initially, until you realize everyone else in class is encouraging you.
What is something else fun you’d like to share about yourself?
I’ve only been doing CrossFit for half a year. Wish I tried it sooner.
