If you work outside of the gym, what do you do?
I used to be a Marketing Communications Specialist and worked on both print and web media – everything from photography, copy, layout, and production.
Did you participate in high school or college sports (or after college)?
In high school I played basketball and did the triple jump in track.
When and why did you start CrossFitting?
I am not really sure, but I feel like Dirk probably had something to do with talking me into trying it. We started at a brand new CF gym in town (after trying them all out) in the fall of 2010.
What is your favorite thing about Recursive?
I love meeting all of the people that come through our doors. I like getting to know them and learning about them and their families. I remember something about everyone I have met. I also love the supportive and inclusive community we have created here.
What is your favorite Recursive memory?
Well, there certainly have been a lot over the last 7 years…a couple that stand out are the Rina Strong Fundraiser event we did for Joe Lee, the first time the Games were held in Madison and the Open announcement that was held here, and Aaron and Cam doing a jazzercise warm up routine (complete with tights) one Saturday morning.
What is one of your proudest Recursive Coaching moments?
I LOVE helping people get a movement for the first time – a double under, a kipping pull up, a muscle up, a box jump. I fondly remember Rachel Strauch-Nelson’s first double under!
How has Recursive changed your life?
Of course, as an owner, the gym has been life changing in every way possible. My kids have grown up in the gym. Olivia was 11 when we started and now she’s Coaching!
What is something else fun you’d like to share about yourself?
I sang back up for the Happy Schnapp’s Combo song The Bears Still Suck (the part where they say “All the ladies now!”) I even got credited on the back of the album! The Bears still suck. The Bears still suck. They really, really, really, really, really, really, suck, Yes, the bears still suck.
