Tia has been a member at Recursive for over 3 years! AND, you will start to see her on the other side of the whiteboard this month as she starts her training to become a Coach!
Why did you choose Recursive?
I was trying to do CrossFit style workouts in a regular gym and I didn’t have enough room or enough motivation! Recursive was super conveniently located and I was glad to meet with the owners before jumping right into a class.
What is your favorite thing about working out at Recursive?
5:30am crew energy! My work schedule is all over the place, but I make a point to come to the 5:30am class even when I don’t have to because the people are so motivating and hardworking.
What was the biggest struggle you’ve had the last few months?
The last few months?! Everything has been a struggle. Navigating a pandemic as a jobless student-future social worker has been incredibly difficult for me. Thankfully Dirk helped me make a plan to stay active and keep myself calm while staying at home.
What is your biggest accomplishment in the last month?
Making time to work on my weaknesses. A fringe benefit of all those at home workouts has been improved push ups, burpees, and I can finally do Double Unders now!
How has Recursive changed your life?
I feel really connected to my community. There are people in Madison who just ‘get it’. We can commiserate together and share in successes and life updates. Recursive has helped me feel more confident and able to meet new people.
What advice do you have for people who are nervous to get started?
Just try it out! The great thing about CrossFit is that it is infinitely scalable. My grandmother actually does CrossFit and while the moves she does are sometimes different from me, we can still do the same workout and both feel accomplished afterwards. And! A lot of the workouts are “your best effort” for a certain amount of time. Which means that you could be working out with a world class athlete and you’ll both start and finish together.
What is something else fun you’d like to share about yourself?
I recently got engaged!
