Melinda started at Recursive shortly after we re-opened after quarantine. She used to be a rower and CrossFit is the first thing she has done post-rowing. She was looking for some of those same feelings – healthy competition and camaraderie. She is doing a fantastic job in classes!

Why did you choose Recursive?
I chose CrossFit because all of the great things (physical fitness, friends and relationship, personal growth, etc etc!) I saw it bring to my best friend’s life, and I chose Recursive because it’s just a mile down the bike path from where I live.

What is your favorite thing about working out at Recursive?
I love a lot of things about it, but I think my favorite so far is how well-informed and supportive the Coaches are; I feel like they are truly invested in me, my goals, and my well being, and it’s so great to be challenged by them in the best way.

What was the biggest struggle you’ve had the last few months?
CrossFit-wise, it’s definitely double unders. Regular life-wise…it’s the lack of hugs!!!  Social distancing is harrrrrrd.

What is your biggest accomplishment in the last month?
I think I would say it’s not going more than two days in a row without hitting a CrossFit class!

How has Recursive changed your life?
Well I’m not sure it’s changed my life quite yet, but I’m sure it’s going to.  🙂

What advice do you have for people who are nervous to get started?
First of all – it’s okay to be nervous! Even the people who’ve been doing this for YEARS get nervous sometimes. (Or every time.) Secondly, just start where you are and try your best. Everyone around you a) is focusing way more on themselves than on you, and b) wants nothing but the best for you! There’s no judgment, just support.

What is something else fun you’d like to share about yourself?
I was a rower and a rowing coach. I studied biochemistry in college but stumbled my way into being a preschool teacher professionally, and I love it so much!
