Jakoby is not new to CrossFit, but he is new to Recursive – and we are so happy to have him join our community!
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am Jakoby and I moved to Madison in June. I grew up in Virginia and first tried CrossFit in 2014 at CrossFit Newfound. I fell off of CrossFit but got back into it last year at SLC CrossFit and now I have found Recursive since moving to Madison.
Why did you choose Recursive?
The location is close to where I live and the 6pm class works perfect for when I get off work.
What is your favorite thing about working out at Recursive?
That I look forward to going to the gym. It’s turned into the highlight of my day. On max day all I could think about was hitting that max even when I was at work. Everyone wants to see you succeed at Recursive and it shows when you are pushing to finish a workout!
What was the biggest struggle you’ve had the last few months?
Being happy with my image and weight. This stems from not having a consistent schedule and eating well while traveling for work. (I have been working on this though and hit the ground running week one of October)
What is your biggest accomplishment since starting your commitment to a lifestyle change?
Last year I lost 40 pounds and I’m looking to replicate that success at Recursive and this time keep off the pounds. I’ve also noticed my lifting technique getting better and I hit a new clean and push press max this week.
How has Recursive changed your life?
Recursive has helped me to put my own health first. I have noticed that I am starting to complete more workouts and I am not as winded when it comes to simple activities.
What advice do you have for people who are nervous to get started?
Just go! The people at Recursive are so welcoming and they will have you wanting to come back for more! Make sure to take it easy early on and don’t push yourself too hard that you will be too sore.
What is something else fun you’d like to share about yourself?
I travel to Albany almost once a month for work and I found a box to drop in at when I am there (CrossFit Beyond)!
