Charlie is not new to CrossFit, but he is new to Recursive – and we are very happy to have him join our community!
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Charlie Bergstrom. I have been CrossFitting for about 3 years, although all but 6 months of that has been working out remotely during the pandemic with my prior gym in Milwaukee. I’m a doctor, specifically I’m a Pediatric Cardiac ICU doctor at American Family Children’s Hospital. I’m married and have two kids, Aurelia (12) and Lucia (9). We ride a four seat bike (really a tandem with a two seat trail a bike) as far as 70 miles at a time!
Why did you choose Recursive?
I did 2-3 drop ins here when I was interviewing for my job before relocating in 2020. I liked the vibe and the space, so when I felt like it was finally time to train again in person, it was a natural place to come back to.
What is your favorite thing about working out at Recursive?
Being around actual people again! As well as having all the things my garage gym lacked (ERGs, a full rig rather than an over the door pull up bar, a rack, etc)
What was the biggest struggle you’ve had the last few months?
Working to ensure my daughter, who has a developmental disability, has all the resources she needs to be successful next year in middle school.
What is your biggest accomplishment since starting your commitment to a lifestyle change?
Losing a bunch of weight and really just taking over control of my health.
How has Recursive changed your life?
Too soon to say…but I’m hopeful it will allow continued improvement along my fitness journey while staying (relatively) injury free.
What advice do you have for people who are nervous to get started?
Try to enjoy the thrill of being new! Learning new skills nearly every session, and seeing remarkable changes in yourself that you never thought possible. And remember, everyone was new once.
What is something else fun you’d like to share about yourself?
I’ve moved all over the country, mostly for my medical training, but I have some Wisconsin roots. I grew up in Boston but vacationed way up North every summer, and I still go to the same place now that my Dad went to when he was a kid.
