Aidan first visited Recursive a few months ago when he was in town interviewing for a new job. His fitness was an important part of the next step in his life. Obviously, Aidan got the job and started at the gym as soon as he moved to Madison!

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am originally from the East coast. I grew up in NY, went to Ithaca College in upstate NY, and also loved in MA and CT, where I began my CrossFit journey in the summer of 2021 (my twin sister got me into it, and the rest is history). In my free time I love to cook, run, explore (mostly Madison right now) and hang out with friends.

Why did you choose Recursive?
I chose Recursive because I loved the facilities when I was looking at CrossFit gyms in the area. It is also really in a convenient location, and the people I met when I looked there were so nice!

What is your favorite thing about working out at Recursive?
I love the people I work out with! I felt accepted very quickly into the Recursive community, and have gotten to know some incredible people over the last few months! They always push me to do my best, and I hope I do the same for them!

What was the biggest struggle you’ve had the last few months?
My biggest struggle in the last few months was accepting that there are some things at CrossFit that I simply can’t do yet (like double unders and pull ups). One thing I love about Recursive is that there are a lot of scaling options, and everyone is understanding that people are at different levels! Plus I come in for skill sessions, and have gotten to work on those skills. I even hit my first double under!

What is your biggest accomplishment since starting your commitment to a lifestyle change?
My biggest accomplishment since starting my lifestyle change has been my mental health. Ever since I committed to working out almost every day (everyone should take some kind of rest every now and then), I have been happier. Especially during the pandemic, it was easy to fall into a feeling of sadness. But working out around fun people who are in it with you makes everything feel so much more fun and exciting. Not to mention the endorphins from working out can dramatically improve your mood!

How has Recursive changed your life?
One of the ways Recursive has changed my life is that it’s given me a reason to wake up early. I’m 2020 I used to sleep way too late in the day and I was not very active. I love CrossFit so much, and I’m not able to attend classes during work time, which motivates me to get out of bed for those early 5:30 classes (which always have a fun dedicated crew!). It’s also amazing to get the hardest thing you’ll do that day done before breakfast!

What advice do you have for people who are nervous to get started?
My advice is to not be scared, and go for it. It’s better to have a bad day at the gym then not show up, because then you’ll at least get some endorphins. Especially in a community like this, everyone wants to see you succeed at whatever level you are at.

What is something else fun you’d like to share about yourself?
I love games. Board games, puzzles, and video games when I have the time. I also have been teaching myself to play the ukulele! I love being a part of Recursive. Genuinely one of the best parts of any day I go! I appreciate y’all a ton as well!
