Aaron joined us for a few months this summer for nutrition and person training as he prepared for the next step in his life!

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I moved to Madison when I transferred to attend UW-Madison in 2019 and I just graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Education Studies and History this spring. I began CrossFit for the first time when I lived in Austin, Texas for a few years, and loved it instantly.
Why did you choose Recursive?
I had the opportunity to meet both Nikole and Dirk prior to enrolling in private training sessions and appreciated their kindness and commitment to their work. I knew it was the right place to jump back into CrossFit.
What is your favorite thing about working out at Recursive?
How kind everyone is at Recursive – whether it be the coaches or the other members I run into during my sessions, everyone is so kind.
What was the biggest struggle you’ve had the last few months?
Certainly, with much of pre-COVID life coming back, it is exciting to be able to socialize with so many people again. However, a lot of social situations are often centered around eating out, so managing a balanced diet has been a challenge.
What is your biggest accomplishment since starting your commitment to a lifestyle change?
Truthfully, my biggest accomplishment has really been taking the initiative to start my journey in the first place. It is always a little intimidating to get back in the gym, but I am happy that I was able to get over the mental barrier and back into the gym.
How has Recursive changed your life?
It has given me so much confidence again to recognize that I am in control of the way I take care of my body. It is always a great feeling to be able to physically and visually feel the progress that has been made.
What advice do you have for people who are nervous to get started?
There is no better time than the present. It is okay to feel like you don’t know what you are doing. Everyone must begin somewhere. Be kind to yourself and practice gratitude towards your body for what it is able to do at the moment, and for what it will be able to do in the future.
What is something else fun you’d like to share about yourself?
I have two dogs: a border collie/basenji mix named Dallas (a rescue dog from Dallas, TX) and a rottweiler named Bruno (yes, Bruno Mars).
