Lauren has been a valued member at Recursive for almost 3-1/2 years! Lauren came to the gym during our very first 6 Week New You Challenge (along with so many other great members that are still with us!)

What was the biggest struggle you had before joining Recursive?
Before joining Recursive, I wasn’t pushing myself at the gym. I was feeling lazy, unmotivated, and bored.

What made you choose Recursive for your fitness needs/goals?
I signed up for the six week challenge back in 2016. I was hoping for intense training and some new friends, plus I liked that it gave me an excuse to get downtown.

What is the most important thing you’ve learned at the gym?
Recursive has given me the strength and confidence to fall in love with activities I might not have even tried otherwise. I ran a half marathon, I competed in Festivus and the Open, I bike, I kayak, I hike, I climb, and I’m learning AcroYoga. I live an absurdly active lifestyle and I attribute my foundation of fitness to this gym. Recursive has taught me to say “yes.

What are you most proud of (so far)?
I’m most proud of overcoming my shoulder injury and continually facing my fears associated with it. A few years ago, I wasn’t sure I’d ever open a door with my right arm again. Now, tonight, I’m going to smash all 75 of those handstand push-ups!

What’s your favorite gym memory?
It’s hard to pick just one. Some highlights include: seeing the community come together for Rina Strong, crushing Festivus with Brian, getting my first HSPU almost by accident at Open Gym, and enjoying all that has come with having the CrossFit Games in Madison.

What do you hope to accomplish next?
I want to perfect my freestanding handstands and handstand walks. I’d also love to get that elusive muscle-up!
